Connection Privacy Policy

Introduction

Welcome to Connection. Your privacy is fundamental to the trust we strive to build with every member of our community. Connection was created to help people form meaningful, authentic relationships in an environment built on respect, transparency, and safety. Protecting your personal information is an essential part of fulfilling that mission.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, how we protect it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using Connection, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

Our Privacy Philosophy

Every decision we make regarding personal information is guided by four principles.

  • Respect. Your information belongs to you. We collect only what is reasonably necessary to provide, improve, and secure our services.
  • Transparency. We explain our practices in clear language, including not only what we collect but why.
  • Security. We invest in technical, administrative, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No system is completely immune from risk, but protecting member information remains one of our highest priorities.
  • Trust. Connection is built on authentic relationships. Protecting member privacy is essential to earning and keeping that trust.

    • Scope

    This Privacy Policy applies to the Connection mobile application, the Connection website, related web services, customer support interactions, verification services, and future Connection products that expressly reference it. It does not apply to third-party services that maintain their own privacy practices.

    Information You Provide

    When creating or managing your account, you provide:

  • Your name and date of birth.
  • Your email address and mobile phone number.
  • Profile photographs.
  • Your gender identity and who you want to meet.
  • Your dating intention and matching preferences (age range, maximum distance).
  • Written profile prompts and answers.
  • Your city and location (see Location Information below).

    • You control the substance of your profile, and you can edit it at any time in the app.

    Identity Verification Information

    Every member completes a one-time identity check (government-issued ID and selfie with liveness detection). This check is performed by our verification provider, Stripe, through its Stripe Identity service. Your ID document and selfie are collected and processed by Stripe under Stripe's own privacy policy. Connection does not receive or store your ID images or selfie. We store only the outcome: your verification status, a verification session identifier, and the date verification was completed. Verification information is used solely for identity verification, fraud prevention, account security, and maintaining platform integrity. As described in Biometric Information below, we also perform a one-time face match to confirm your profile photos are of you.

    Biometric Information

    To keep every member real, after your identity check we perform a one-time face match: the selfie captured during verification is compared against the photos on your profile to confirm they show the same person, and your photos are screened for appropriate content. This is a form of biometric processing, and we want to be clear about how it works.

  • How it works. The comparison is performed by our AI infrastructure provider, which receives your verification selfie and your profile photos solely to perform this match and content check. Connection receives and stores only the outcome (whether your photos passed), never a faceprint, face template, scan of face geometry, or other biometric identifier.
  • Purpose. This processing is used solely to prevent impersonation and fake or catfishing profiles and to maintain platform integrity. We never use it for advertising, and we never sell it.
  • Consent. By completing verification you consent to this one-time biometric face match. You may withdraw your consent by deleting your account.
  • Retention and destruction. Connection does not create or retain any biometric templates. Your profile photos are retained as described in Data Retention; your verification selfie is held by Stripe under its own policy, not by Connection. Our AI provider processes the images only to return the match result and is not permitted to use them to train its models or retain them beyond performing the check.
  • Legal compliance. Where required by law, including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) and similar state laws, we obtain your consent before this processing and follow applicable retention and destruction requirements.

    • Communications

    When you use Connection, we process the messages you send to your connections, reports you submit, customer support requests, and survey responses. Communications are processed only as necessary to operate, secure, investigate, improve, or support the platform and in accordance with applicable law.

    Location Information

    To match you with people nearby, Connection collects your device's location (latitude and longitude) with your permission during onboarding, along with your city. Your coordinates are used to compute distance for matching and are never shown to other members; other members see only your city and an approximate distance. You can change location permissions at any time in your device settings.

    Information Collected Automatically

    When you use Connection, certain technical information may be collected automatically, including device type, operating system, app version, language settings, time zone, IP address, session information, crash reports, and performance diagnostics. This information helps maintain platform performance, stability, and security.

    Children

    Connection is intended exclusively for individuals who are at least eighteen (18) years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that information has been collected from a child, we will take reasonable steps to delete it promptly.

    How We Use Your Information

    We collect and use information only for legitimate purposes that support a safe, authentic, trustworthy platform.

  • Operating the platform: creating and maintaining your account, authenticating you, delivering features, providing support, and remembering preferences.
  • Making introductions: your profile, preferences, intention, prompts, and distance are used to generate a small number of thoughtful introductions rather than endless options.
  • Safety and fraud prevention: detecting fake accounts, preventing identity theft, reducing scams, investigating reports, and enforcing our Terms of Service.
  • Account security: detecting suspicious activity and protecting against unauthorized access.
  • Product improvement: analyzing usage in aggregate to fix bugs and improve the experience. Whenever practical we use aggregated or de-identified information.
  • Communications: account updates, security alerts, verification requests, policy changes, and service notifications. You may opt out of promotional communications at any time.

    • Artificial Intelligence

    Connection uses artificial intelligence as part of how the product works, and we want to be direct about what that means.

  • Matching. Profile content you provide (your name, age, city, dating intention, and written prompts) is processed by third-party AI infrastructure providers to select your introductions and to generate the "why you line up" note and conversation starter you see with each introduction.
  • Safety. Message content may be processed by AI systems to detect harassment, scams, and other behavior that violates our standards.
  • AI-generated text. Match reasons and conversation starters are AI-generated and may occasionally be imperfect. They are suggestions, not guarantees of compatibility.
  • Human oversight. AI-assisted decisions affecting member safety, moderation, or account enforcement are reviewed by the founders or qualified moderators before final action is taken.

    • Our AI providers receive only the information reasonably necessary to perform these services and are not permitted to use it for any other purpose on our behalf. Before public launch, Connection will operate its AI processing under provider terms that prohibit the use of member data to train the provider's models. We do not use AI to make automated decisions with legal effect about you without human review.

    Information Shared With Other Members

    Connection is a dating platform, so parts of your profile are shown to the members you are introduced to: your first name, age, photos, city, dating intention, your prompts and answers, and your verification badge. Your email, phone number, birthday, precise location, and verification documents are never shown to other members.

    Information Sharing

    We do not sell your personal information for monetary compensation. We share personal information only when necessary to operate our services, comply with legal obligations, protect our members, or with your permission.

  • Service providers: cloud infrastructure and data storage (Supabase), identity verification (Stripe), AI infrastructure providers for matching and safety, email delivery, and security monitoring. These providers receive only the information reasonably necessary to perform their services.
  • Legal obligations: we may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, protect member safety, investigate fraud, or prevent imminent harm.
  • Business transactions: if Connection participates in a merger, acquisition, financing, or similar transaction, member information may be transferred as part of that transaction with legally required notice of material changes.
  • With your consent: in situations not described here, we will seek your permission before sharing your personal information.

    • Data Retention

    We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary. Account information is retained while your account is active. After account deletion, limited information may remain for a period to prevent fraud, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, or maintain system integrity. Verification status records may be retained to prevent repeated fraud. Aggregated or de-identified information that can no longer identify you may be retained to improve our products and safety systems.

    Security

    We employ administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encryption in transit, access controls, security monitoring, and incident response procedures. Member photos are stored in private storage accessible only through short-lived signed links. No internet service can guarantee absolute security; members also play a role by protecting their passwords and reporting suspicious activity.

    Your Privacy Rights

    Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Connection will respond to qualifying requests in accordance with applicable law. You can manage most of your information directly in the app: edit your profile and photos, change your matching preferences, manage notifications, pause your account, or delete your account entirely from Settings. Deleting your account removes your profile, photos, connections, and conversations; limited records may be retained where the law requires or permits.

    Changes to This Privacy Policy

    We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform evolves. When material changes occur we will provide notice through the app, email, or website announcements. Continued use after an updated policy becomes effective constitutes acceptance.

    Privacy is not a one-time promise. As Connection grows, we evaluate our products, technologies, and partnerships through one guiding question: does this strengthen the trust our members place in us? If the answer is no, we work to improve it.
